Jus kidding..
apparently One of his best Innings was 140 against New South wales
aginst fiery bowling from Jack Gregory, during his first tour to Aus.
and it was here taht he was barracked heavily and probably cemented
his dislike of Aus crowd.. Again on the same tour, in the third Test
he played a crucial hand of 33 runs (hobbs signalled him from the
middle to be promoted up the order) on a 'sticky'.
Earlier there was this century against WI when he represented Surrey,
battling hard to save the game, which was very highly rated as well.
He never let himself go fully, his character made him defend, which he
did magnificiently.
To quote him on his own batting
'"The author is the first to admit that he is no artist; but he would
ask the reader to remember that batting is an art and as such is
infinite in its variety and worthy of the best that is in him."
