I agree with most of what SS says - it is extremely difficult (though
not impossible) to make a living from sailing. There are lots of very
young ppl and old ppl who are willing to work to a pitence, doing what
they enjoy.
Of course it's not true that you MUST have any sort of formal
qualification to make a living.
