I believe that Saver tickets are not valid on the 1001 arrival into
Euston, which leaves Chester at 0723. This train does not call at
Shotton - passengers traveling from Shotton to London would have to
catch the 0702 Cardiff train as far as Chester and change there. That
is perfectly permissible on a Saver ticket.
The conductor on the Virgin train has no way of knowing whether you
did travel from Shotton or not.
