I might point out at this juncture that America's role in the
slave trade was that of consumer.  The wholesale/retail
and shipping operations can be laid directly at the feet of
the Dutch and the English (and many other European powers)
as well as the Africans themselves, who were ready and willing
sell their countrymen to the highest bidders.
