Definitely not the only ones, no. Though we seem to be in the minority!
A week or so back the NewScientist magazine had some 'experts' answering
a questioner who who claimed that though she was completely unable to
sing in pitch, she could *hear* when another singer was off. The consensus
was that nearly everyone can *hear* pitch-accuracy; it's just that singing
needs training. I think the case of Marty disproves the "nearly everyone"
part. (:-)
Or it may be simply that voice skills are less important to the majority
these days. To me there are a lot of lead singers of groups that have
very unimpressive voices (even if the overall sound of the group is good).
It's sort of weird actually how the need for skill seems to have declined
over the years... Whatever happened to the Operatic Voice? [Not that *I*
have much appreciation for that, either! (:-/)]
