If you have more than one user on the machine, try running the app as
admin. Shouldn't really be an issue, but doesn't hurt to try...
Right-click on the shortcut to Gravity and choose "Run as..." Provide
password when asked.

Sounds weird. Have you tried to view All Articles by setting the correct
view filter? If the articles then turn up, you might have a bad filter
somewhere that marks all articles as read.
If you update the server count (Ctrl-Shift-U), do you get an article
count on the server? Or is this 0 (zero) too?
