Way back when, BBSs usually used the QWK file format for message
boards. You would subscribe to certain FIDONet groups and local boards
and download all the messages into one QWK file. You would then use
CMPQWK or a simliar Windows program to view, and respond to messages.
It would output another file which you could upload to your BBS and it
would parse the messages you made and send them along to the correct
boards.
Not sure if CMPQWK works with regular news groups, but it's worth a
shot.
