That is exactly right. And I met him in a French prison visiting room,
purely by chance, while I was visiting another prisoner. In this particular
prison, all visits take place in one big room, with no separation between
prisoners and visitors. Because in this particular prison, 5% of the
prisoners get 95% of the visits, you do meet these people. The Basque was
frequently visited by his wife.
The Basque served his time in France, and when it was up he was handed back
to the Spanish. The last I heard he was in a Madrid jail.
